Henley on Todd

Every year, the Henley on Todd event is held in Alice Springs, which is one of the most important towns in the Northern Territory. The race is held on Todd River.

In the event, participants use bottomless boats that are made with metal frames. These boats are fashioned in the shape of yachts, kayaks, and even regular boats. Since they are bottomless, the participants will be able to run over the hot sands of the Todd River. On the last day of the event, participants in three land vehicles will fight each other with water cannons and water bombs.

This mock regatta is held as a joke at the expense of the British colonizers, and it attracts a large number of locals and travellers. Even though the river is typically dry, locals put up ‘no fishing’ signs during the events.
